Can you believe that August is over? I’ve already noticed the sun setting earlier and my evening walks are starting to get a bit chilly. In a way, this summer has felt short, but long at the same time. It’s definitely been my most interesting summer in a while! Here is my monthly wrap up of some of the things I’ve watched, eaten or drank, or just loved for the month of August.
What I’m watching:
Supermarket Sweep is a game show that aired in the ’90s and I can’t get enough of it. I remember watching this show when I was younger and now you can watch it (at least some episodes) on Netflix. The episodes are approximately 20 minutes long so it feels like I can watch so many in a little amount of time. I can’t really say what’s so great about this show, other than I love watching the Big Sweep where the contestants run throughout the supermarket, grabbing items to put in their shopping carts, to see who can “buy” the most groceries. Watching contestants throwing huge blocks of cheese or frozen turkeys or big packages of diapers in their carts just makes me giddy.
If you want to read more about Supermarket Sweep, I really like this article on Eater and this article on Huffington Post. And of course, the Wikipedia page.
What I’m eating:
If you haven’t guessed, I’ve really been into comfort things in the past few months. Which is why I’ve fallen back into making one of my favorite comfort foods, grilled cheese. It has 3 ingredients – bread, cheese, and butter – and it only takes about 5 minutes to cook on the stove. What more could you want? I feel like I talk a lot about grilled cheese on this blog, but that’s okay because grilled cheese is the best. You can make it simple, you can make it fancy, or you can add in whatever ingredients you want. You can’t really go wrong with grilled cheese.
What I’m loving:
I recently discovered that you can listen to episodes of Dateline in podcast form. FYI, I listen to podcasts on my iPhone so I listen through iTunes. I was searching for some podcast, I can’t remember which, when Dateline came up in the list as one I might be interested in. I thought this might be a companion podcast to the television show but nope, it is the actual audio of the show. You hear the teaser section that they play right before they go to commercial and you’ve got all the music. Also, how great of a storyteller is Keith Morrison? His narration is amazing.
I believe new episodes drop in every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (but I may be wrong). A lot of the podcast episodes are from television episodes that aired years ago but I think they do air episodes from the current television season. The episodes range in length, probably because the television episodes could be anywhere from 1 to 2 hours long. If you like the show Dateline and want to listen to the episodes, I would definitely check out this podcast.
See you next month!
