Folks, the year is half over. It is all a decline after this. We are headed into summer and soon it will be fall and where did the year go? Here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the things I’ve been up to in June.
What I’m watching:
I’ve been watching the show Foyle’s War. It’s a British detective series set during World War II that was broadcast on ITV. Series 1 originally aired in 2002 and it lasted for 8 series. I’ve been checking out episodes from the library and watching them through the Hoopla app on my television. Each episode is 120 minutes so it’s taking me a while to make my way through the series but I am really enjoying it. The show follows Detective Foyle as he solves crimes and murders with the help of his driver Samantha, as well as Detective Milner.
What I’m planning:
We are heading into the third quarter of the year and I’m doing a goals refresh. I’m taking a look at all my goals from this year and seeing how I am doing and what I need to do in the future to make progress. I have a feeling that some of my goals may change or may be more refined. For instance, one of my goals this year was to improve my work-from-home setup. I recently got a new desk, which was the main focus of this goal, so now I need to figure out what else I need to do, if anything, to work on this goal.
What I’m reading:
I had checked out some nonfiction books from the library but found that I wasn’t really reading them and that I would much rather read my fiction books. Funnily enough, the books I checked out were about time management which I need some help in. So, about a month ago, I made a daily goal of reading 10 minutes of any nonfiction book and I finally finished one of the books earlier this month. It’s called 168 Hours, written by Laura Vanderkam, and it talks about how to make the most of your 168 hours in every week. Basically, it just boils down to prioritizing what you want to do and being aware of how you spend your time. The author suggests tracking all of your time for a week to figure out what you do every day. She has a lot of good tips but I admit, she seems like one of those people who consider watching television to be useless. A lot of her tips could be summarized as, if you need an hour here or there to prioritize something, just don’t watch tv! The book was published in 2010 so it was fun reading about BlackBerries and TiVo.
What I’m loving:
For the past few weeks, I’ve been going to a somewhat new to me coffee shop/bakery. It’s near the Seattle Center and is called Sugar Bakery + Cafe and it is fabulous. I’m loving sitting down and writing or reading a book while drinking some coffee and having a delicious pastry. I might make it a mission to try every pastry on their menu – they have a lot and everything looks so yummy!
See you next month!
