Poppy and Alex have gone on vacation every summer since they met in college. Ten years of vacations, until two years ago when something happened and they haven’t spoken since. When Poppy hits a bit of a roadblock with her career and is unsure what she wants to do, she realizes that the last time she was happy was when she and Alex were on vacation. In a last-ditch effort to save their friendship, Poppy proposes that she and Alex take one last trip together.
I’ve had this book sitting on my nightstand for a while now and when I hit a bit of a book slump a couple of weeks ago, I decided to dive in and read this one. I’m glad I did because I liked this book a lot.
This book is a friends-to-lovers trope, which is one of my favorite tropes. I love reading about people realizing the person they love has been in front of them the whole time. Plus, what could be better than falling in love with your best friend?
I thought the chemistry between Poppy and Alex was amazing and I loved how every couple of chapters, we got a chapter describing a past vacation so we could see how Poppy and Alex’s relationship progressed over the years. I thought that reading about all their travels really helped flesh out the characters and made them real. I also liked reading about all the places they travel to, some exotic and some not so exotic.
There was one part of this book that gave me the icks. Poppy and Alex are on vacation in Palm Springs, in the middle of summer, in an apartment with no air conditioning. After waking up after a hot sweaty night, Poppy just throws on a dress and is ready to go. No shower, no washing her face, no deodorant, she just changes her clothes and is out the door. I cringed when I read that part.
Other than that, I really liked this book!
