I seriously can’t believe that it’s already December. I need to get out all of my holiday decorations and decorate my apartment this weekend. I also can’t wait to open up my advent calendar. I’m super excited for the one I got this year.
I know I missed my monthly wrap-up from last month but not a lot has been going on in my area. Truth be told, I’ve been a bit uninspired lately. I’m hoping that the coming months will bring me joy with the holidays and the new year coming up. I did just recently return from a trip to the East Coast, which was amazing. It was great to see some friends and just chill out for a while. I definitely felt invigorated after I got home and I am hoping to continue those good thoughts throughout the month of December.
Here are some of the things I was up to in November:
What I’m learning:
At the end of October, I signed up to learn how to speak French through Duolingo. Duolingo is a learning app (I have it on my phone) where you can log on and do a daily lesson on whatever you want to learn. I think they started out with just languages, but now I believe you can brush up on your math and music as well. I have the free version so there is always an ad when I finish a lesson but I usually just mute the sound when the ad comes on so I don’t have to listen to it.
It’s a pretty good learning app. The lessons are usually less than five minutes so they go by pretty quick. The app does seem to be focused on vocabulary and teaching you how to say phrases, but not so much on grammar and pronunciation. For instance, I remember learning Spanish in high school and learning how to conjugate verbs but here the app doesn’t go through any of that; you just memorize which words go together. Also, they don’t really explain how to pronounce words (like if consonants are silent or where the accent should go) but rather just have you repeat the words back. But I am enjoying it and have learned some new words so far. My goal is to, one day when I go back to France, be able to hold a conversation in French.
What I’m watching:
I’ve been watching the latest season of The Great British Baking Show. I haven’t watched all the episodes yet so no one tell me who wins! This show is such a great comfort watch. I can put it on when I need something low-key to watch or when I’m knitting and it’s just such a fun show to be engaged with. Even when Paul and Prue have something negative to say about someone’s bake, it’s always said in the nicest way. I’m also really liking Alison Hammond, the new co-host, but that might be because I never really liked Matt Lucas and I was not sorry to see him go. There are a lot of great contestants this season and everyone is bringing their A-baking game. I do have to be honest though – I’ve watched every season of this show and I still can’t tell you what a biscuit is and what the equivalent American version is of a biscuit. Is it a cookie? Is it a crunchy cookie? I don’t know.
What I’m looking forward to:
I’m looking forward to the coming holiday season. This is my favorite time of year and I’m so excited to take part in everything that Seattle has to offer this December. I’m excited for my holiday reading, I’m excited to find those perfect presents for people, and I’m excited for the holiday ambiance that will be everywhere. It just seems like such a great way to end the year!
See you next month!
