I read 70 books in 2024. My goal was to read 70 books and I met it! I read a lot of books sitting at the coffee shop, sitting on airplanes, and sitting on buses. There’s no better way to pass the time than reading. I track my reading both on Goodreads and my own spreadsheet (I love a spreadsheet). I love to see when I read a book, what kind of books I’m reading, and if there are any trends in my reading.
Here’s my 2024 reading in review:
Number of books read: 70
This averages out to just a little bit over 1.3 books read per week.
Number of pages read: 24,486
Averages out to approximately 470 pages read a week.
Longest book:
State of Terror at 495 pages.
Shortest book:
Death by Coffee at 184 pages.
Average book length:
349 pages. Sounds about right!
Average rating:
According to Goodreads, my average rating was 3.2 stars. I am laughing because this is exactly the same as my average ratings from 2022 and 2023. Like last year, I felt like I hadn’t read a lot of great books. In 2024, I rated two books as 5 stars, twelve books as 4 stars, 54 books as 3 stars, and two books as 2 stars. I tend to rate most books around 3 or so (or as Goodreads likes to say “It was good”).
Most read author:
I read five books by Mick Herron. I really got into his Slough House series and read all the novel-length books in that series that I hadn’t already read.
Top reading month:
November – I read 10 books during November. Four of these books were from the above-mentioned author Mick Herron. It got to the point that as soon as I finished one book I would go online to the library and check the next one out for my kindle right away.
Books by genre:
Fiction – 69
Nonfiction – 1
I read one nonfiction book this year – Making It So by Patrick Stewart. I checked out a lot of nonfiction books from the library but I never read them. There were a few times this year when I had over five books checked out from the library at the same time and I prioritized the fiction novels. I think I have convinced myself that it takes so long to read a nonfiction book that a lot of time it is not worth it to start a nonfiction book when I have other books to read.
Books by acquisition type:
51 books were borrowed from the library
19 books were owned by me
At the beginning of the year, I was focused on trying to read one book a month from the dozens of books sitting on my bookshelves that I hadn’t read yet. I managed to read six books from my bookshelf before I had to start packing up everything to move. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten back to this habit of clearing books off my bookshelves, but hopefully, I can read more next year.
Books by format:
Paperback – 24
Hardback – 23
Ebooks – 23
Most of the hardback books I read this year were checked out from the library. If you didn’t know, the library has an abundance of hardback books! I like to read ebooks at night when I’m falling asleep. For some reason, a kindle or my phone is so much easier to handle when I’m lying in bed.
Happy reading!!
