Some days, the hardest decision for me to make is what to watch. And on those days, I don’t actually want to decide anything at all. I don’t want to commit to a new plot, learn new characters, or make time to watch 5 seasons. Usually, when I watch TV, I’m multitasking, like either knitting or crocheting or writing on this blog, so I look for something calm, comforting, and easy; something that I don’t have to pay close attention to. These are the shows I rewatch when my brain is tired or otherwise engaged, and I just need something on that is relaxing and familiar.
BBC’s Pride and Prejudice
This is my ultimate comfort watch. I know every look, every line, every moment of longing, and that’s why it’s number one on this list. There’s no hurry here, just beautiful countryside, beautiful costumes, and the reassurance that everything will go exactly as it should. I don’t have to pay close attention because I already know the story, but I want to watch it anyway. It’s perfect for slow afternoons, knitting, or when I want something relaxed and classic.
The Office
When I want to watch something amusing and familiar, this show is it. I’ve seen these episodes so many times that the characters feel like friends, rather than roles in a TV show. It’s funny without being demanding, and comforting without being emotional. I can dip in and out, laugh at the same jokes, and let it play while I do other things. It’s the easiest choice when I want to zone out but still have background noise.
The Martian
This one might seem like an odd comfort movie, but lately it’s been on repeat. I already know the outcome, which takes away all the stress, and what is left is competence, problem-solving, and a character with a morbid sense of humor. I enjoy watching Mark Watney figure things out step by step. It’s reassuring in a smart and resourceful way.
These are the things I watch when I don’t want something new or unexpected. I’m just looking for something familiar and reliable: no judgment, no prestige TV, just vibes.

Great list! The BBC P&P is so good, and I have seen it many times. The Office is really good too. I just finished my first run of Parks & Recreation, and I can see it becoming a comfort show for me. My favorite movie is Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow – I never get tired of it.
Sliding Doors is so good!
