I read 64 books in 2025. My goal was to read 52 books – I figured that was one book per week, and if I went over, then great. Most of my reading happened on the bus, at silent reading parties, and curled up on my couch. I track my reading both on Goodreads and in my own spreadsheet. I love to see when I read a book, what kind of books I’m reading, and if there are any trends in my reading.
Here’s my 2025 reading in review:
Number of books read: 64
This averages out to just a little bit over 1.2 books read per week.
Number of pages read: 22,099
This averages out to approximately 425 pages read a week.
Longest book:
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil at 535 pages.
Shortest book:
Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe at 209 pages.
Average book length:
345 pages. Sounds about right!
Average rating:
Once again, according to Goodreads, my average rating landed at 3.2 stars, which is exactly the same as in 2022, 2023, and 2024. I honestly have no idea how I keep managing to rate my books in such a way that my average stays identical year after year. As I mentioned in my favorite books of 2025 post, this wasn’t a great reading year for me. I didn’t rate a single book five stars, gave nineteen books four stars, forty books three stars, and five books two stars. As you can see, nearly two-thirds of the books I read in 2025 earned three stars, or as Goodreads likes to say, “It was good”.
Most read author:
I read four books by Allie Pleiter. It was such a delight to find her books! I read all three books in her A Riverbank Knitting Mystery series, as well as the first book in her Nimble Needle cozy mystery series.
Top reading month:
August – I read eight books during August.
Books by genre:
Fiction – 60
Nonfiction – 4
I read four nonfiction books this year, up from just one last year. I read Be Ready When the Luck Happens, The 100 Thing Challenge, Careless People, and Inner Entrepreneur. I set a goal to read three nonfiction books in 2025, so I’m happy to say I officially met, and slightly exceeded, that goal. I’m hoping to read even more nonfiction this year, and I already have a few titles on hold at the library.
Books by acquisition type:
51 books were borrowed from the library
13 books were owned by me
Of those 13 books, six of them I read in December as part of my holiday reading. I usually purchase those books instead of checking them out from the library, simply because you never know when they’ll become available or how long the wait list will be. Of course, I still managed to add more books to my physical tbr pile than I actually read.
Books by format:
Paperback – 22
Hardback – 29
Ebooks – 13
Most of the cozy mysteries I read exclusively on my kindle. For some reason, a cozy mystery just belongs on a kindle. Meanwhile, nearly all the hardbacks I read came from the library, which has no shortage of them. I do love a hardback book, but let’s be honest: they’re basically bricks. Lovely bricks, but not something I want to lug around in my bag unless I’m looking for an unexpected arm workout.
Happy reading!!

What a great year! I love how your average rating has stayed the same for several years. ☺️
It’s funny because I have no clue how that happened! I’ll have to pay more attention this year.
