I snapped this picture this morning of a crowd of people waiting to enter the Seattle Public Library. I had stopped by the library on my way home from running some early morning errands to return a book and check out something new. I wasn’t even thinking about what time it was when I arrived at the library (in fact I was so excited that I had woken up early on a Saturday) so I was surprised to see a crowd waiting outside. And then I realized that the library hadn’t opened yet, and all these people were waiting for its doors to be unlocked.
Whether it’s people waiting to check out a new book, wanting to use the free internet, or just looking to get out of the cold, it made me smile to see the crowd at the doors of the library and to know that there is a place for all these people to go, for whatever reason.
I go there, too! Mostly to the Seattle Room on the tenth floor, to do my neighborhood history research. The downtown library is rich in resources, including the librarians who can help you find where to find something.
