Well, April is over, and somehow it felt like it flew by. It was one of those quiet, cozy months filled with small routines, a few sweet treats, and little moments that made everyday life feel just a bit more special.
Here’s what I’ve been up to in April:
What I’m watching:
I watched Invitation to a Murder on Netflix, and it ended up being such a cozy little mystery. It follows Miranda Green, a flower shop worker with a love for Agatha Christie novels, who is invited to a secluded island mansion, along with five other individuals, by the mysterious Lord Findley. Of course, things take a turn when one of the guests ends up dead, and Miranda has to put her mystery knowledge to the test.
If you’ve read any Agatha Christie, you might be able to guess where things are headed, but that’s just part of the charm of this movie. The story was entertaining, the characters were fun, and it made for the perfect weekend afternoon activity: sitting on the couch, knitting, and watching something a little whimsical and suspenseful. Also, Miranda is played by Mischa Barton, which completely surprised me. I didn’t recognize her at all and only realized it after looking the movie up later.
I’ve also been rewatching an old favorite: Star Trek: Voyager. I was really into Star Trek: The Next Generation in high school, but somehow skipped Voyager when it originally aired. I watched it for the first time a few years ago and loved it, so it felt like a good time to revisit. I was looking for something easy to have on in the background, and this was exactly right. It’s currently streaming on Pluto TV (which I had never even heard of; there are truly too many streaming platforms now), but at least this one is free… for now. I’ve finished season one and just started season two.
What I’m eating:
One afternoon while wandering the mall, I passed by Lady Yum and decided to stop in for a little treat. Sometimes it’s just nice to pick something up for yourself. Their macarons are so soft, and the flavors are always fun. I picked up a variety, including salted caramel, lemon, and toffee. I think the toffee might be my favorite, and it doesn’t hurt that it was a pretty shade of blue, too.
What’s making me happy:
Lately, I’ve been spending my weekend mornings at the coffee shop, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite little rituals. I try to get there early, around 8:30 (which feels early to me, at least). I could go earlier if I rolled straight out the door, but I like taking the time to get ready so it feels like my day has properly started. There’s just something especially peaceful and soothing about those quiet morning hours. Sitting by the window with a latte, reading or journaling, before everything gets busy makes the whole day feel a little more magical.
I also tackled a very different kind of project this month: assembling furniture. I ordered a sideboard cabinet from Wayfair to store all my yarn and craft supplies, and “assembly required” turned out to be a bit of an understatement.
At one point, I had to take one side apart four separate times because I kept realizing I’d put pieces on upside down or backwards (I guess I didn’t read the instructions very carefully). And of course, I ended up with extra hardware at the end, which always feels slightly suspicious, even though I know they include extras on purpose. But in the end, I got it all put together, and it’s now filled with all my craft paraphernalia, which feels like a very satisfying small win.
See you next month!
