There are some books that are so good that you don’t want them to end. These are the books with intriguing characters and plot twists that keep you thinking about those books long after you’ve read them. They are the books that leave you with unanswered questions and leave you wondering what happens after the last page. These are the books that I wish had a sequel.
Here are 5 standalone books that I wish had a sequel:
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
I think we can all agree that Amy and Nick are horrible people. However, I confess I can’t get enough of this dysfunctional couple. I was shocked at the end of the book when we find out that Amy and Nick decide to stay together. I can’t even imagine what happened next and I would completely read a sequel to find out what this screwed-up couple has been up to.
The Consortium Rebellion by Jessie Mihalik
This series is a trilogy so technically there’s already a sequel here, but I was left with so many questions after the conclusion of the series! There were so many little plotlines that didn’t get answered and many more characters that we could talk about. I would read so many more books set in this series and I am bummed that there were only three books to read.
Uprooted by Naomi Novik
I loved the characters and the worldbuilding in this book and I would gladly check in with Agnieszka and the Dragon to see how they are doing. Has Agnieszka improved in her magic? Do the Dragon and Agnieszka live happily ever after? I really liked this magical fairy-tale type world and want more of it.
How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry
I truly enjoyed reading about this quaint bookshop. This book had a great cast of characters and I would love a sequel to find out what they are all up to now and to find out how the bookshop is doing.
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
I felt so bad for Rachel in this novel. Yes, she does a lot of stupid things but she was also manipulated and gaslighted by her ex-husband. I want to find out if Rachel was able to stop drinking and if she got her life on track. Is she is friends with Anna? Was she able to find a new job? Has she recovered from her years of abuse? I need to know!

I’m guessing that one of the top books in this category is Pride and Prejudice because the characters of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are so beloved by readers.
