I was tagged by Alex at mybookworld24 to do the How I Choose My Books tag. You can check out Alex’s answers here.
The tag was initially created by thebookishunderdog. I’m excited to answer these questions so let’s go!
1. Find a book on your shelves or ereader with a blue cover. What made you want to pick up this book?
Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik.
I read this book because it had everything that I love in the synopsis – a space odyssey, romance, characters on the run, what more could you want? I loved this book and gave it 5 stars.
2. Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did. Why did you read it in the first place?
Galileo’s Daughter by Dava Sobel.
This was a book club read. I had never read anything about Galileo or his life before and thought this book would be super boring. I was pleasantly surprised and found this book interesting and enlightening.
3. Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick up a book at random. How did you discover this book?
I tend to get rid of most books I’ve read so I don’t have a lot of books on my shelves. I have about one shelf of read books and two shelves of books waiting to be read. So, I went into my library For Later shelf and picked a book at random. I don’t remember how I exactly discovered this book but I probably read about it on a blog or on a list of upcoming book releases. I put this book on my For Later shelf because I thought it sounded like a book just for me. It’s got WWI and WWII aspects and Olympic gods and goddesses. It just sounded fun.
4. Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?
Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon.
My college roommate told me that I needed to read this book. I read it and absolutely loved it. I loved the scenes that take place in the courtroom, I loved the mob, I even loved that it was published in 1980 and contains so many things that we would consider old-fashioned.
5. Pick a book that you discovered through YouTube/book blogs. Did it live up to the hype?
Dark Archives by Megan Rosenbloom.
I don’t watch book You Tube, but I listen to many podcasts about books, and this book was mentioned in a podcast. I just finished reading it and it completely lived up to the hype. It’s a fascinating book about a morbid subject.
6. Find a book on your shelves or ereader with a one-word title. What drew you to this book?
Recursion by Blake Crouch.
I picked this book up because I had previously read Dark Matter by the same author and thought it was a great book. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this book so much and, in fact, I liked it more than Dark Matter.
7. What book did you discover through a film / TV adaptation?
I love reading books before I see the movie or television show based on that book. It always gives me some extra insight to a show. Some of the books I’ve read that are also movie or television shows are:
- Red Sparrow
- The Martian
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy
- The Bourne Identity series (although they are nothing like the movies!)
- The Witcher series
8. Think of your all-time favorite book/s. When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place?
One of my favorite books is Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.
This book was recommended to me by a friend because of my love for Practical Magic. I adored this book.
Thanks for tagging me for this challenge Alex!
