I am always thrown when it is time to flip to a new month in my calendar because I think, “Didn’t I just do that?” I feel like this year is going by so fast. Here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the things I’ve watched, eaten or drank, or just loved for the month of July.
What I’m watching:
First, let me tell you what I haven’t been watching and that is the Olympics. I tried to watch the Olympics but I feel like, with social media and the time change, that you already know what’s happened before you can watch so what’s the point? You can go online and watch highlights so you’ve already seen the winning routine or race before it airs on television. Speaking of television, the Olympics air on NBC where I live and it is so difficult to just find a schedule that tells me what time I need to watch to see the sport I am interested in. There was a commercial that said gymnastics would be on the next night at 8pm so I tuned in at 8pm and gymnastics were not on. It was some other sport. I’m finding it really frustrating and I’m not surprised that viewership is down.
What I have been watching is Making the Cut on Amazon Prime. This is the show starring Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn which is basically Project Runway, but instead of looking for the next big fashion designer, they are looking for the next big brand. This is the second season and I have to say it has improved substantially. We don’t have those silly vignettes of Heidi and Tim going about the city and doing their own thing. It does appear this season was filmed during the pandemic lockdown so perhaps that is why – there is a lot of physical distancing and mask-wearing going on. I also like that they have a variety of models – there are men, women, and models of all sizes and I love that. There are currently only 6 episodes available to watch so we still don’t know who the winner is yet but I do have a favorite!
What I’m eating:
There is a little market in the courtyard behind my office that sells sandwiches and hot food and snacks and when I went down there the other week to get some lunch, I saw that they had rice krispies squares for sale. I haven’t had a rice kripsies square in years! I ended up buying one and it was so delicious. I even bought another one the next week when I went down there again (I go into the office to work a couple of days a week now). Then, when I was at the grocery store, I bought the ingredients to make my own rice krispies. I think I’m going to make a half-batch since I know I will be eating them all by myself and that is a lot of sugar.
What I’m loving:
I recently starting listening to the podcast The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner. You all know how much I love The Office. Brian Baumgartner played Kevin on the show. What I love about the podcast is not necessarily the stories about The Office. I love those, but what I love more is hearing Brian Baumgartner talk because his character on The Office sounds so different than his regular speaking voice. I always expect to hear “Kevin” talking and am just blown away when it’s not him.
See you next month!

I haven’t been interested in watching the Olympics, and I wasn’t sure why until I read this post. Yes, with social media, I feel like I’ve already seen it.
I totally agree. I’m not surprised that viewership is down.
