It’s no secret that summer is not my favorite season. There always seems to be too much sun and too many people. That being said, Seattle is a great place to be during the summer. I mean, I enjoy Seattle in all weather but it really shines in the summertime.
Here are 5 things I love about Seattle during the summer:
Long days.
It usually stays light in Seattle past 9pm during the height of summer. In fact, the fireworks show on the 4th of July starts after 10pm because it’s not dark enough to see the displays until that time. Because it stays light so late, it is so easy to go for a walk in the evening, play sports later at night (not that I play sports…), or just sit on your porch and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.
Farmers’ markets.
In my opinion, Seattle has some of the best farmers’ markets. If you don’t want to brave the insanity at Pike Place Market, you can swing over to any of the neighboring communities to see what they are selling at their markets. You can always find at least one farmers’ market operating during the weekends.
The weather.
You know, the sun is out almost every day during the summer. Seattle may have a reputation as a rainy depressing city but not during the summer months. It is the best. Except for our random heatwave earlier this summer, the city usually averages about a couple days of 90-degree weather during the summer.
All the water.
Seattle is home to so much water. You can sit on the shore of Lake Washington, kayak in Lake Union, walk around Green Lake, or take a boat out on Elliott Bay. If you want to go out on the water, Seattle in the summer is a great time to do so.
Ice cream.
There may not be a lot of Baskin Robbins around, but there are plenty of other ice cream shops. There’s at least one great ice cream shop in each neighborhood. Most places have at minimum one different flavor every month and it’s always fun to see what’s on their menu. Plus, Seattle is home to a lot of vegan ice cream.
