I can’t believe October starts tomorrow. It seems like at the beginning of the month the sunset was at 8 and now it’s setting before 7. The rain has also returned and I feel like we have seen the last of the sun for a while. But we are heading into my favorite seasons (fall and winter) so that’s okay. Here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the things I’ve watched, eaten or drank, or just loved for the month of September.
What I’m watching:
I just watched The Courier on Amazon Prime. The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel Brosnahan and is based on a true story about a British citizen recruited by MI5 and the CIA during the Cold War to deliver messages to a Russian secret agent played by Merab Ninidze. I had seen previews for this movie and thought it looked interesting. Benedict Cumberbatch and Merab Ninidze were both great in their roles and one of my favorite parts of the movie and something that surprised me was the friendship that grows between the two men. Since the movie is based on true events, I did look both of the men up so I already knew how the movie was going to end. If you do decide to watch the movie, I would recommend not doing any research beforehand because I think it makes the movie more exciting – are they going to get caught, what’s going to happen?
What I’m eating:
I found this copycat recipe for Olive Garden five-cheese ziti on the Taste of Home website. Pasta and cheese are two of my favorite foods and I love Olive Garden (not sorry!) so I knew this would be a good recipe. I made it the other day and boy, do I have thoughts. First off, the ziti is so good; this will definitely be a recipe I will make again. That being said, it made so much pasta! I knew I was in for a lot when the recipe called for a pound and a half of pasta. I thought about cutting the recipe in half but I wasn’t sure what size pan to cook the ziti in or how to adjust the cooking time so I decided to just make it all. Like I said, there was so much pasta that when I was putting everything in my pan to bake it kind of overflowed and I was a bit worried about what would happen when it cooked. I ended up putting the pan on a baking sheet in the oven so that if anything bubbled over while baking, it wouldn’t get my oven all messy (spoiler – it did bubble over so I was glad for the baking sheet). But now I have seven tupperware containers of ziti and my fridge is full of all the leftover cheese I bought.
What I’m loving:
New glasses! I went to the optometrist this month for my yearly eye exam and I decided to get some new glasses. My old glasses were over 10 years old and the prescription was slightly off so I wasn’t seeing the best out of them (I only wear them at night when I take off my contacts so it never bothered me that much). Plus, they had gotten stretched and bent out of shape because I have a bad habit of falling asleep in them. So when I was at the optometrist’s office I browsed the glasses on the wall and picked out a new pair. They arrived a couple of weeks ago and I love them. It took a bit to get used to them actually fitting with the newish prescription but I love how they are working out.
See you next month!
