August came and went, and I can’t believe we’re already into September. It’s starting to get dark earlier, and my apartment is finally cooling down after those heatwaves we had last month. I’m starting to think about fall, making soup, and wearing sweaters. But first, we have to get through another month. I suspect that September will be over before I know it. I guess it’s true that the older you get, the faster time goes.
Here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the other things I was up to in August:
Watching Netflix:
I watched Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser. When I tell you I was a fan of The Biggest Loser TV show, I mean, I watched it just every time it was on. I especially enjoyed watching it while I was at the gym. I felt like I was working out with all the contestants, you know? Only my workouts didn’t end with me throwing up. Even I knew there were problems with the show.
This documentary on Netflix was super interesting. I loved all the interviews, especially hearing everything the doctor had to say. I had no clue that he was apparently a famous sports doctor; I just thought he was the guy on The Biggest Loser. I really felt bad for him because I really believed him when he said he was only concerned about the contestants’ health. That being said, I am not surprised that Jillian Michaels chose not to be in the documentary. She never came off good on the show and I don’t think anything she would have said would have redeemed herself. I really enjoyed seeing some of the former contestants and learning about what the real experience on the Biggest Loser ranch was all about.
Seeing a movie in the movie theater:
Last month was the 40th anniversary of the movie Clue, so the theater by my apartment was having a special screening of the movie. This was the first time I’ve been to the movie theater in a couple of years. It was so much fun – I miss going to the movies! There were so many people at the theater. I ate so much popcorn and drank what felt like a gallon of Diet Coke. My only complaint is that, you know how Clue has three different endings? Well, they only showed one ending at my screening. We only saw the ending where Ms. Scarlett is the killer. I was waiting for the other endings to show, and then the movie just went into the ending credits. I was bummed. Although I did see that the theater was showing the movie three different times so I wonder if each showing had a different ending.
Going to yarn festivals:
Flock Fiber Festival is held during August at the Seattle Convention Center. My friend Alli and I went last year and, of course, we had to go again this year. Flock is a weekend of all things fiber – featuring vendors, classes, talks, and meetups. It’s for knitters, crocheters, weavers – basically anyone who loves yarn and fiber. There are over 100 venders selling their wares, and it can be a little overwhelming. Alli and I took the approach to start at one end of the room and make our way down each aisle to make sure we saw everything. There was so much yarn and stickers and accessories – I loved it. I picked up 2 skeins of this beautiful dark aqua yarn as well as a tote bag. I also preordered some yarn so hopefully that will come in the mail sometime this month.
Starting a new knitting project:
I specifically bought the yarn at Flock to knit a beanie. Alli and I had a lot of fun holding each different color yarn skein up to my face to see which color would pop the best next to my skin and hair. The hat I’m making is the Toast hat by Tin Can Knits. The pattern is pretty simple – it’s a mix of ribbing and garter stitch. I can’t wait to finish it so I will have a new hat to wear this winter!
See you next month!

Sounds like a good month!
It was nice!
