Janie Morris loses her job, boyfriend, and apartment all on the same day. The only bright part is when she is escorted out of her former office by security guard Quinn Sullivan. When she runs into Quinn a few days later, this leads to a job opportunity with one of the other companies in the building. Now that Janie and Quinn are working together their relationship starts to heat up as they fall for one another.
I first read this book back in 2015. It’s the first book in the Knitting in the City series. I read the synopsis for one of the later books in the series and I really wanted to read that one so since I had only read the first book and I didn’t remember much about the plot, I decided to start over with the series and start at the beginning again so I could refresh myself with who the characters are and how they are introduced.
After reading the first chapter I quickly realized that I did not remember anything about this book. I couldn’t tell you the plot line or who any of the characters were. So this was, in a way, like reading a brand new book in a way for me.
I didn’t love the Janie character. I can see how the author was trying to depict her as geeky and quirky but I found her to be a bit much. She is a character who knows a bunch of random facts and who blurts them out all the time and of course, Quinn finds this adorable. I feel like this is a common character trait that authors use to show someone is quirky but I’ve never actually met anyone in real life who just spouts off random facts. Do these people actually exist?? Plus, Janie was extremely naive and at one point I felt like I was yelling at her that Quinn was the boss and how had she not realized that yet?
Quinn is your typical millionaire guy who doesn’t want to settle down until he meets the adorkable and eccentric Janie. He is constantly touching her and crowding her space but that’s okay because Janie likes it. There’s really not much plot in the book, it’s mainly just Janie and Quinn working and their relationship developing.
This book is a solid start to the series. We meet all of the ladies in the knitting group and learn a bit about each of them (I believe each book in the series follows one of them) and the book sets the basis for the friendship between all the knitting ladies. However, I had a lot of questions at the end and I don’t know if the rest of the books in the series will answer them because they are about Quinn and Janie. I still don’t know what exactly it is that Quinn’s company does. And how old is he and how did he make so much money? Also, what happened to Janie’s sister and will she return?
I went back and read my original review (you can read it here) after I finished writing this up. Last time I rated this book 3 stars. On this reading, I would probably rate this book 2 or 3 stars. The cover has been updated since I read this book last, which is fine but I don’t really understand why they had to change it.
