Caitlyn Sullivan was ten years old when she was kidnapped from a family party. Using her wits, she escaped and made it to the home of Julia and Dillon Cooper. But the events of that night would continue to haunt her for years.
Nora Roberts writes some long books and I love them. This book is a mix of family saga and romance. The first half or so of this book was about Cate growing up and becoming a teenager and young adult. She spends time with and relies on her family a lot to heal from her traumatic abduction. The second half of the book moves more into the romance when Cate is in her late 20s and falls in love with Dillon, the boy who helped save her when she was a child.
The book takes a while to get going. A lot of time is spent with Cate as a child and teenager. If you’re looking for romance, that doesn’t happen for a couple hundred pages or so, so be prepared to wade through a lot. But if you like reading about great families and friends, then you’ll probably love the beginning of the book.
Family really is the backbone of this book and Cate’s family is amazing. Her family is considered Hollywood royalty, as almost everyone in it, starting with her great-grandfather, is an actor. I was kind of amazed that everyone seemed so nice and down-to-earth.
I was a little surprised to see that this book is categorized as romantic suspense. I didn’t really think there was a lot of suspense in the book. I’m not sure if it was because it was fairly predictable or because Nora Roberts tells us what everyone is thinking. I didn’t get a sense of suspense or fear or impending doom at any time. I knew that everything would work out in the end and that the bad guys would be caught.
Still, another enjoyable read from Nora Roberts!
