Ever since they were little, Cassie’s brother Tom has made her a Christmas scavenger hunt. Tom has told Cassie that this year will be the biggest hunt ever. And then Tom dies, but not before leaving the first clue for Cassie to find. Months go by before Cassie can open the envelope but when she does, it leads her not only on a merry quest but also to Sam, Tom’s best friend whom Cassie had lost touch with.
I knew this book was going to be emotional so I made sure to save it to read when I was alone in my apartment. I was glad I did because I definitely cried more than once. This book has a lovely uplifting theme but the parts about grief were intense.
A lot of this book is about Cassie’s journey and her getting out of her comfort zone to discover more about life and herself. Sam does a lot of growing as well. They are both trying to move on after the death of Tom and they both have a lot of healing to do.
I didn’t always agree with the choices Cassie and Sam made, especially at the beginning of the book. The book also has a bunch of time jumps as the main part of the book spans over a year. I kept trying to keep track of what month it was and kept forgetting.
Overall this is an inspiring but emotional book.
