Lolly’s life didn’t entirely turn out the way she hoped. She spends her days making pies for her family’s struggling diner and taking care of her dad and sister. As her 33rd birthday approaches, Lolly can’t help but look back at all the choices she’s made in her life. When her great-aunt gives her a gift of three lemon drops – lemon drops that will allow Lolly to live a single day in her life had she made different decisions – Lolly can’t help but see what could have been.
This book is filled with magical realism and is really sweet (no pun intended!) with some great characters that ended perfectly. I loved that each of Lolly’s magical days was completely different from the others.
I thought Lolly was such a relatable character. She’s feeling lost in her life, especially when her sister finds her list of life goals written in the 7th grade and Lolly realizes she hasn’t accomplished anything. Lolly feels a bit stuck and like everyone else is moving on without her. Who hasn’t wondered how their life would be different had they made different choices?
This book is about second chances and following your heart. It was such a quick and entertaining read and I looked forward to spending time with Lolly and her family and friends. I thought I knew how it was going to end but the author threw in a little twist at the finish that I really liked.
The only thing that bugged me about this book is that the author tried to tell us that Lolly was in the 7th grade in the 90s and the math does not work out. If Lolly is turning 33 in 2022, that means she was born in 1989, which means she was in 7th grade in the early 2000s, not the 90s.
