Summer is not my favorite season. I don’t enjoy being hot and sweaty and no matter how much sunscreen I wear, I always end up getting sunburned. But there are some things that I enjoy about summer like long days, vacations, and going to outdoor barbeques.
Tomorrow is the summer solstice – the longest day of the year. It is also officially the first day of summer. It’s always struck me as odd that the longest day of the year occurs before summer begins so the days are slowly getting shorter as summer goes on. I always thought that the summer solstice should be at the height of summer so that the sun would be at its highest point at peak summer rather than at the beginning of summer.
But I don’t make the rules. So I’m just going to enjoy what I can and invest in more sunscreen and a lot of fans to keep me cool.
Here are five things I’m looking forward to this summer:
Summer drinks – The only thing better than drinking an ice-cold lemonade on a hot summer day is drinking a strawberry lemonade, right?
Fresh fruit – I love all the fresh fruit that is in season during summer. Watermelon, mangoes, raspberries, grapes, I love them all.
The farmer’s market – Where can you find all this amazing fruit? At the farmer’s market. Sometimes I get annoyed because the market can get so busy but I love getting outside, supporting the local economy, and buying all the fresh food.
Ice cream – Ice cream might be my favorite dessert and there’s nothing like eating an ice cream cone on a cool summer night.
Sun dresses – Sun dresses that are so light and airy, that just flow around your legs, are the best. They are so comfortable and I love getting them out of my closet and wearing them during summer.
