Workaholic Imogen doesn’t have time for Christmas and definitely doesn’t have time for her co-workers’ intrusive questions about her life. Her stories about her fake happy childhood and fake dog seem to keep everyone at bay until a mishap at work leads to everything crumbling around her. When Imogen’s boss forces her to take a month off from her job, Imogen is not sure what to do. Luckily her favorite client offers Imogen the use of her guest cottage in the Cotswolds. As soon as Imogen arrives at Holly Cottage she finds it’s just what she needs to relax and maybe figure out who she really is.
This was a lovely holiday story about a young woman searching for herself. Imogen is overworked but that’s how she likes it; as long as she is working she doesn’t have to think about how her mom hates her and how she has no family or friends. Her work colleagues think she lives this amazing life but everything is made up. But after spending time in the countryside at Holly Cottage, and sleeping in for once in her life, Imogen slowly starts to realize that she is not as alone as she thinks she is.
This book has a great cast of characters and I loved reading about the snowy scenery. It really helped set the December/holiday vibe. Holly Cottage seems like an idyllic destination and I wouldn’t mind spending a month in the cottage and neighboring charming village.
The book is not super heavy on the holiday side. This was more of a family drama with a sprinkling of romance. I did think the ending was a bit rushed. I wanted to know more about what happens next between Imogen and her mom and what happens when Imogen returns to London and to work.
This one was not my favorite of Sarah Morgan’s books, but was still a solid start to my holiday reading season!
