Tilda Finch is a 52-year-old divorced woman who, one day, discovers that she is disappearing. Not figuratively, but literally disappearing, as in her pinky finger has disappeared, and now her ear has too. When she brings it up to her doctor, she learns that disappearing is not uncommon and that this is something that happens to women of a certain age. Tilda is determined to fight this diagnosis and goes on a journey of self-discovery to rediscover who she is and what she has to live for.
This book was recommended to me by one of my book club friends and I’m so glad I read it. It was funny and sentimental and inspiring. The self-discovery that Tilda goes on is not new, but her journey definitely makes you look at people in a different way.
Again, the message of the book, that if Tilda can’t see herself, how can anyone else, is nothing new. It’s a common conception that women become invisible as they age. But I loved the magical realism in the book that caused the women to physically disappear. It was something that I was not expecting, nor was I expecting for disappearing to be a common thing that happens to women (I’m not sure why I was surprised, because this is clearly stated in the synopsis but I don’t think I read the synopsis since my friend recommended this book).
I loved all of Tilda’s friends, especially the new friends she meets at the support group. Everyone was so encouraging and supportive. They were all rooting for Tilda and it was just so sweet.
I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next!

Sounds like a neat premise!
The premise sounds interesting! It also seems like a great idea for a movie. Thanks for the book recommendation. I’ll add it to my reading list!
