Last weekend, I took myself to the movie theater to see The Devil Wears Prada 2. I bought my ticket, grabbed some popcorn and a soda, and sat down to immerse myself in the world of Runway magazine for the next two hours.
I don’t know about you, but I love going to the movies alone. It’s like a little date with myself.
There’s just something oddly luxurious about it. I don’t have to plan anything with anyone or work off of someone else’s schedule. I can sit where I want to sit, I can eat all the popcorn and don’t have to share it with anyone. I can even get that big bag of $8 candy, and no one will judge me.
Watching movies is inherently a solitary activity. Everyone is sitting down, staring at a large screen. And, if you’re lucky, no one is talking to you or whispering “what happened?” halfway through the film.
I like going to the movie theater because you’re forced to concentrate on the movie. You’re not on your phone or your laptop or having another conversation with someone. You’re completely engrossed in the movie.
The only downside is that there is no one to discuss the movie with. And you have to wait for other people to see it before you can talk about that one scene or performance.
Going to the movies alone feels illegal the first time you do it, but once you’re able to sit and stay and watch through all the credits without someone waiting on you, you will love it.

It’s my favorite way to go to the movies also.
Sounds lovely! I don’t mind going to a restaurant by myself because I like to read while I eat anyway, so I would probably enjoy the movies solo.
I like going to restaurants by myself too!
