Since her husband died, Holly has put on a little weight. Well, to be honest, she’s put on a lot of weight. But when she sits next to personal trainer Logan on an airplane, the two strike up a conversation and Logan offers to help her get back in shape. Holly jumps at the chance to work out with him and soon finds herself falling for Logan.
What can I say about this book? I love a good makeover, find yourself, and get your groove back story. And that’s what this book is so I should have loved it. But I didn’t. I didn’t hate the book, but I didn’t love it. This one was just okay.
The main characters, Holly and Logan, I just didn’t see that they had any chemistry together. I didn’t see the romance and I didn’t see the attraction so I didn’t really care if/when they got together. The only thing Holly seemed to like about Logan was that he was super hot. And Logan had almost no personality. He was extremely shallow and was only focused on looks (it’s true that he is a personal trainer and is paid to make people look good, but that was all he was fixated on). Honestly, there’s a lot of fat-shaming in this book and most of it was done by Logan.
Plus, for all the emphasis that is put on Holly’s physical body, we really don’t know what she looks like and I’m not even sure how much Holly is supposed to weigh. She loses at least 45 pounds and there is talk of her new hourglass figure and muscles but she is still considered fat and chubby by other characters. Even when she loses a bunch a weight, Logan is still embarrassed to be seen in public with her (see fat-shaming, above). We know how good-looking and attractive Logan is but all we know about Holly is that she’s overweight.
I thought this book had a lot of potential. Holly is sassy and sarcastic and some of the things she said made me laugh. I did read this in one sitting but it was when I was on an airplane and the television monitor at my seat wasn’t working so I kind of had nothing else to do.
This book just didn’t work for me.
