Well, after finishing Aurora Blazing, I had to dive right into the third and final book of the series. I need to find out how it all ends right?
Chaos Reigning is the third and last book in the Consortium Rebellion series. The series follows three daughters of House von Hasenberg as they navigate love, politics, and war in the distant future (read my reviews of book 1 and book 2). In book 2, Aurora Blazing, we learned of a conspiracy between the lower houses to usurp the high houses which led to Ada and Bianca’s brother, the heir to House von Hasenberg, being kidnapped.
Catarina von Hasenberg is the youngest child of House von Hasenberg and is used to being underestimated. She often uses that to her advantage to spy on people who would want to hurt her House. Catarina decides to go undercover at a house party hosted by the lower house that orchestrated her brother’s kidnapping in order to suss out information. Bianca agrees but insists on Catarina being accompanied by a bodyguard – the quiet and gorgeous Alexander Sterling. When Catarina is almost killed, and then Earth is attacked, Catarina and Alex must work together to end the war before it begins.
Look, there is a lot that happens in this book. I liked the characters of Cat and Alex but there were times I felt they were too perfect. And I wasn’t a hundred percent convinced that two people (okay, three if you count Alex’s partner) could stop a war from happening. But they somehow managed to do so.
If you thought that book 2 was low on action, this book is filled with it. There are fights and escapes and plotting. Cat is independent and a badass, like her sisters. I think if we were to learn more about all the von Hasenberg siblings, we would find out everyone is stellar.
Again, the romance was more of a side plot; saving the universe takes precedence here. Plus, there is no will they or won’t they. Cat and Alex meet and there is kind of an instant attraction and the rest of the book is just them trying to get together while they keep getting interrupted.
I still had some questions at the end of the book because not everything was tied up and I’m not sure if there will be more books in the series or a spin-off. But I generally liked where this series went and how everything played out.
