Hello August! Summer is here in the Pacific Northwest – we’ve had a number of warmer than usual days this past month. I am enjoying the beautiful weather but I could use a bit more clouds; sometimes the sun is a bit bright! Here is my monthly wrap up of some of the things I’ve watched, eaten or drank, or just loved for the month of July.
What I’m watching:
I’ve retreated back to an old favorite and I’ve been watching Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle version) on PBS. My local PBS station has been airing the miniseries in 1-hour chunks on Sunday nights and I’ve been tuning in. I will never get tired of this show; I can watch it on a loop for hours and days. I love the actors and actresses, I love the costumes, I love the scenery, I just love all of it. Luckily I do have the miniseries on DVD so I can watch it whenever I want but there’s just something special about catching it in realtime on television.
What I’m eating:
A friend texted me earlier this month to ask my opinion of toast. My reply? “Toast is great! I love toast.” Toast is made from bread, which is one of the best carbohydrates. You can make toast from just about any kind of bread. And there are so many toppings for toast! You’ve got your basic butter, you can do butter and jelly, honey, Nutella, just so many spreads. A tried and true favorite is peanut butter – creamy, not chunky (at least that is my preference). Or if you’re feeling really fancy, you can make avocado toast. You can eat toast for every meal, it’s not just a breakfast item. Plus, I firmly believe that cheese on toast is just a version of grilled cheese, which is my favorite!
I just have a cheapy Cuisinart toaster that I use to make my toast – it gets the job done. But my friend sent me a link to a toaster that she wanted to buy and now I am wondering if I need this toaster. The brand is called Dualit and there are many different toasters to choose from. I especially like the one with the extra wide slots for bagels.
What I’m loving:
I have to give a shout out to the post office and UPS and FedEx. Like so many people, when the shops closed due to lockdowns, I resorted to shopping online. I have had so many items shipped to me over the past few months and I think all the shipping services are doing a fantastic job. Yes, sometimes things take an extra day or two to get to me, but that’s fine. Everything is busy right now. If those leggings I bought from Old Navy take a little extra time to get to me, but I was able to shop from the comfort of my home while staying inside when I needed to, that’s fine by me.
See you next month!
