A few weekends ago, I went apple picking at The Farm at Swan’s Trail with a couple of friends. The farm is located in Snohomish, about 45 minutes from Seattle. It has a U-pick apple orchard, a pumpkin patch, 2 corn mazes (1 for kids and 1 for adults), a petting farm, lots of apple-themed food, and plenty of activities for kids.
I’ve never been apple picking so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Luckily, the day we went was beautiful, had lots of blue skies, and the sun was in and out of the clouds all day.
We went on a crisp Saturday morning in September. There were plenty of people at the farm but it was not overcrowded. COVID concerns were addressed and everyone was wearing masks and social distancing. There was plenty of hand sanitizer to be found and the farm did a great job in limiting the number of people riding in each hay wagon as well as limiting the number of people that could be in the general store at the same time. I found everyone to be pretty respectful of space and each other.
The U-pick apple orchard lets you walk up and down rows and rows of apple trees to pick whatever apples catch your eye. This year, the farm had Gala and Honeycrisp apples. A lot of the apples that were at eye and hand level were picked through but if you reached up just a little bit, there were a bunch more apples at the tops of the trees. Plus, my friends and I had luck finding trees with more apples when we went past the first few rows of trees. There are plenty of apples in the back!
There is no cost to go into the U-pick apple orchard or the pumpkin patch. However, you do pay for the apples you pick and the cost is determined by weight. Be sure to pay for your apples before you get back on the hay wagon to travel back to the main area. Other activities such as the farmyard animals and corn mazes do cost extra.
The pumpkin patch was on the other side of the corn mazes. There are plenty of pumpkins to choose from and were in all shapes and sizes. I didn’t get a pumpkin but that’s more because I live in an apartment and don’t really have space for a huge pumpkin.
I would for sure recommend the apple donuts and the kettle corn. My friend had a hand-dipped corndog and said it was the best corndog she’s had in a long time. I was too busy stuffing my face with donuts!
The Farm at Swan’s Trail is such a fun place to visit if you are looking to pick apples. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to return next year.
