Meg is a popular hand-letterer/calligrapher who designs hand-written journals, planners, and invitations for her clients. She also sometimes includes secret messages in her designs but figures no one will ever find them. Until the day Reid, a former client, shows up wanting to know how Meg predicted his marriage would be a mistake. Frustrated with a creativity block and after hearing that Reid has plans to leave New York City, Meg convinces Reid to wander the city with her in the hopes of finding Meg’s missing inspiration as well as Reid’s appreciation for the city.
I thought this was a sweet and charming romance with great characters. Meg is a bit whimsy and dreamful, while Reid is very logical and realistic. I thought the combination of the two was perfect and I adored the way they complemented each other.
I also really enjoyed the friendships in this book. The book deals a lot with the complexities of friendships and how to navigate new and old friends. It felt very real to me and I found it pleasing to read about women supporting each other and being nice to other women.
I liked this book a lot. I loved all the discussions of planners, journals, and lettering. As someone who uses a paper planner, this was right up my alley. I also enjoyed all the talk about hand-letting and Meg visualizing the ways that specific words would be written out. This book definitely made me want to take a trip to New York so that I could walk around and look at all the signs everywhere, just like Meg and Reid.
