Dannie Kohan’s life is going perfectly to plan. She’s just nailed the most important job interview of her career and accepted her boyfriend’s marriage proposal. That night, she goes to sleep knowing everything is proceeding smoothly but when she wakes up she is in an unfamiliar apartment with a very attractive stranger. Dannie realizes she has woken up five years in the future. Dannie spends an hour in the future and when she wakes up again, she is back with her fiancé in the past.
I didn’t love this book. I thought this book was going to be about one thing and then it took a turn and went off in a different direction. I thought that maybe we would read about Dannie’s life in the five years leading up to the dream, but nope. There is a big time-skip and all of a sudden we are propelled four years in the future to the six months before Dannie’s dream.
In my opinion, this book is not a romance. I did not see any chemistry between Dannie and her fiancé, nor was there any chemistry between Dannie and the attractive stranger (who turns out to be the boyfriend of her best friend). This book isn’t really about people falling in love and living happily ever after. I did think this was a story about friendship, though.
My biggest issue with this book was the character of Dannie. I didn’t really care for her and did not connect with her. The author kept telling us about the clothes she was wearing and name-dropping designers but I just did not have any interest. All the day to day interactions that were supposed to show who Dannie was as a character, did not hold my attention and I never felt like I got to know who Dannie was.
I’m on the fence about this book but a lot of people love it so don’t take my word for it!
