This book is the first book in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. I thought this book was a great introduction to the series. I’m interested to see how Inspector Gamache works with his colleagues, especially the unlikeable (at least to me) Agent Nichols.
Still Life is a cozy mystery set in the small village of Three Pines, located near Montreal. The quaint setting of Three Pines really comes to life in the book. There is a quirky group of people who live in the village and the book sets the stage for the rest of the series.
There were times that I felt the book moved a bit slow and there were times when it seemed like Louise Penny completely switched topics from one thing to another. I suspect that is just her writing style and it will take time to get used to. I loved all the descriptions of the town, the townspeople, and of course, all the food. If Three Pines were a real place I would definitely want to visit.
There are 16 books in this series, with the 17th scheduled to be published this year. I’m off to find them all at the used bookstore!
