And just like that, April is over. It seemed like it flew by but I still had time to watch and listen to some great things. Here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the things I’ve watched, eaten or drank, or just loved for the month of April.
What I’m watching:
I watched this fascinating documentary on Netflix about art forgery called Made You Look. The documentary is about one of the largest art frauds in American history. It took place in the early 2000s and eventually led to the closing of one of the country’s oldest art galleries. The woman at the center of the scandal is Ann Freedman, the director of the art gallery who unknowingly(?) sold a number of fraudulent paintings claimed to be by Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, among others. The documentary doesn’t try to prove or disprove Freedman’s claims that she did not know the paintings were fake, but rather it presents the whole story with interviews from lawyers and experts, as well as Freedman. I really liked how the director lays everything out and I still don’t know if Freedman was in on everything.
What I’m drinking:
Now that the weather is warming up, I can indulge in one of my favorite drinks – iced coffee. I don’t drink iced coffee too much when it’s cold out because that’s just a little too much cold to deal with. But when the sun comes out, there is nothing better. I’ve been making sort of a cold brew at home that I mix with a bunch of milk and caramel flavoring and I’m loving it. I even bought a new coffee tumbler so I can bring my cold brew into the office on days when I need to go in. It’s just a little something that is making me smile.
What I’m loving:
I’ve been relistening to The Black Tapes podcast. The Black Tapes is a serialized docudrama about a journalist, Alex Reagan, who crosses paths with a paranormal investigator, Dr. Richard Strand. Dr. Strand is a skeptic and is on a mission to debunk all claims of the supernatural. Alex becomes interested in his collection of unsolved cases, what she calls the “black tapes”, and the podcast develops into an investigation of these unsolved cases, as well as the enigmatic life of Dr. Strand. This podcast is creepy and interesting and keeps me entertained. I especially enjoy how just about every person that is interviewed doesn’t know what a podcast is and thinks it’s the television. The number of times that Alex has to explain what a podcast is makes me laugh. The Black Tapes ended in 2017 and right now, there are only two and a half seasons. I’m not sure if the podcast will return at some point but I really hope it does. Until then, I guess I will just keep relistening.
See you next month!
