Having stabilized and stopped the Divide from collapsing, Adequin Rake and her crew of Sentinals are trying to return to their galaxy before they run out of supplies and food. But first, they must find a way to power their ship which leads Adequin and her group on a mission across the stars. Not everyone who leaves on the mission will return and secrets will be revealed before the group is reunited with everyone.
The Exiled Fleet is the second book in The Divide series. I read the first book, The Last Watch, earlier this year and liked it a lot (you can read my review here). I could not wait until the next book in the series was published. I preordered it and it arrived on my doorstep the day it came out.
I did think this book was not quite as interesting as The Last Watch. There were times when I thought it was a bit slow and my attention wandered while reading. This book is a bit more serious with not as much action. That’s not to say that nothing happens in the book – there is a lot that happens and a lot of traveling to different places.
I really liked how this book dug into the backstory of some of the secondary characters. I had questions left over from the first book and luckily, some of them got answered. That being said, having the first book in front of me while reading would have been handy. There were times when a character or incident was mentioned and I would have liked to refresh my memory on what happened.
I am a little disappointed because I thought this was a two-book series and I can’t quite tell if it is or not. The book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but it’s clear the story is not over. Still, if there is one, I will definitely read the next book in the series – I am hooked!
