April 3-9 is National Library Week. National Library Week is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries and to encourage their use and support. This year’s theme is “Connect with Your Library”, which highlights the idea that libraries help people connect to resources, ideas, and communities, both in-person and virtually. The library connects so many things together, and of course, libraries connect people to books!
My local library is the Seattle Public Library. I’ve written about the library many times and can’t say enough great things about it.
Here are 10 ways the Seattle Public Library helps you connect to everything:
- You can dig into your family history by connecting with a genealogy librarian
- Stretch your writing muscles by joining a writer’s group
- Meet new people and read some new books when you connect with a book club
- Level up in your career by getting one on one help with job and unemployment questions
- Take free online classes to learn a new language
- Connect with authors by listening to an author reading or discussion
- Browse the latest best-selling and popular books and check out a Peak Pick
- Reach out to the business librarians to get the information you need to start your own business
- Borrow, download, or stream movies and tv shows
- Take a creativity class and learn how to use your digital camera, create a website, or sell your work on Etsy
You can do all these things with just a library card and you can help celebrate National Library Week by visiting your library!
Here are some great quotes about libraries:
“The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”
― Albert Einstein
“Who doesn’t love a library? It is a place you can go in any town and discover the world.”
― Pat MacEnulty
“In my world there would be as many public libraries as there are Starbucks.”
― Henry Rollins
