Sisters Cat and Ginny and their husbands travel to the Swiss Alps for a weekend hike. By the end of the weekend, only two out of the four hikers make it down the mountain. What happened on the hike to take such a tragic turn?
This book drew me in from the beginning. It starts off with two people, covered in blood and bruises, making their way through a village to the police station. We don’t know who these people are or what happened; all we know is that they need to “stick to their plan”. The book then flashes back to two days earlier when Cat, Ginny, and their husbands leave to go on a hike.
The book is told in two time periods – the present with the two individuals at the police station and flashbacks of the foursome on their hike. Since we know that two people make it through the hike, it was interesting to try to guess who they were based on what was happening in the past. Some of the things that happen are a bit far-fetched, but that was kind of the appeal of the book.
I’ve never read a book where I disliked all of the characters, yet desperately needed to know what happened. There were a lot of surprises. I guessed some plot points and was wrong about others. I’m not sure how I feel about the ending.
This was a fairly quick read. The book is about 250 pages – I ended up taking two days to read it, only because I had to go to sleep the first night I was reading.
