I love spring. The days are getting warmer and longer and all the flowers start to bloom. After a long gray winter, it’s so nice to see the colorful flowers that show up everywhere. The only thing better than seeing all the flowers that pop up in spring is taking pictures of them. You should see the camera roll on my phone; it is filled with so many pictures of flowers!
There are so many beautiful blooms that appear in the spring but I do have some favorites. These are not all of my favorite flowers but these are the ones that I see most on my walks and adventures – the ones that I have to stop a take a picture of:
Grape hyacinths – one of my favorite flowers. I love the urn shape of this flower and it is so aptly named as it looks like a bunch of grapes! It is such a bright flower and I love the color. I don’t see a lot of them in Seattle but when I do you bet I am taking a closer look.
Magnolia blossoms – Seattle is home to many magnolia trees so it is not uncommon to see these bright pink flowers hanging off of tree limbs in the spring. I love how these flowers look like little tulips. There’s a very small margin when these flowers are at their peak but when they are, they are fabulous to see!
Cherry blossoms – we can’t forget those other flowers that grow on trees here – cherry blossoms! Cherry blossoms are so pretty and delicate and when they are at their peak bloom, it is amazing to walk under the branches and look up and see all these beautiful flowers. I like both the white and pink versions of cherry blossoms.
Common camas – this flower always catches my eye. It typically blooms in late spring and there is a block that I walk on that is filled with these flowers. I always make a point to walk by them because they’re so lovely. I don’t know if it’s the star shape or the fact that this flower is so symmetrical, but I am always on the lookout for them. Fun fact – this is the first flower that I actually took the time to look up its name because I liked it so much.
Pieris mountain snow – these flowers grow on shrubs and I am super intrigued by them. I love the bell-shaped flowers and how they grow in clusters.
Hyacinths – no relation to the grape hyacinths, but this spring-blooming flower is another favorite. I think I am realizing that I like flowers that consist of one stalk with multiple flowers on it. I just think there is something really pretty about a mass of flowers all in one spot. Also, apparently I really like purple flowers, as 3 out of the 6 flowers here are purple!
Lovely post! Many of these are among my favorites too (I also love lilac, which has a similar shape and color to some of these). We are just *barely* starting to get flowers here in Michigan, so it’s nice to see everything’s blooming in your neck of the woods!
Oh I love lilacs as well! I just didn’t have any pictures of any so I didn’t include them haha! Maybe I will make it a mission this weekend to go out and find some.
