Spring has arrived with a vengeance and I am loving it. The sunset has passed the 8 o’clock mark and all the flowers are in bloom. One of the things I love about Seattle is all of the flowers that show up in spring. They are so colorful and beautiful and I love going on walks and seeing them all. I don’t have any flowers on my list below but here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the other things I was up to in April.
Where I’m traveling:
Last weekend I went on an adventure to Edmonds, WA. Edmonds is about 15 miles north of Seattle, which is not far unless you are like me and don’t own a car. My book club was meeting up for lunch and the restaurant they picked, while on the waterfront, was not near any sort of public transportation. I did some searching and some digging trying to figure out how to get to the restaurant and just about every option involved taking two buses and the light rail which would have taken me close to two hours. But then I remembered that Amtrak has a station right near the restaurant.
I looked up what times the train ran and found out I could take a morning train to Edmonds and then take the thruway bus back to Seattle in the early afternoon. The train ride to Edmonds was about 20 minutes and the bus back into Seattle took about 45. So while I had to hang out in Edmonds for a few hours on either side of lunch, it wasn’t bad because my actual travel time was so much less than it would have been if I didn’t take the Amtrak. I had fun seeing the sights in Edmonds – I went to Top Pot and got a doughnut in the morning, I went to the bookstore and wandered around downtown, and I sat on a bench on the waterfront and watched the ferries come in and out. Although it felt like a very long day, it was lovely.
What I’m watching:
I watched season 2 of Slow Horses on Apple TV+. I love this series. Everyone in it is so good, especially Gary Oldman. I could write a whole essay about how great an actor Gary Oldman is and how he should be more of a movie star but you should watch the series to see for yourself. I’ve read the books that seasons 1 and 2 are based on and the show does a good job of sticking to the book content. There were some changes in season 2 that were a bit different than the book, but I think this is because there are only six episodes in the season so they had to cut some things out and condense some storylines. I did read that season 3 of the show is on its way and season 4 is going to start filming soon so I’m excited that there will be at least a couple more seasons to watch.
What I’m loving:
For my birthday in March, one of my presents was a crock pot. I can’t tell you how excited I was for this present and I immediately got to work looking up recipes. I’ve only used my crock pot once (because the dinner I made fed me for two weeks!) but I am loving it. I already know what my next crock pot meal is going to be and I am super stoked to make it. I can already tell that this present is going to be put to good use. If anyone has any good crock pot recipes, send them my way!
See you next month!
