Thorn Scarhart is a 39-year-old witch looking for love in the 17th century. When one of her spells backfires, she is pulled into the present day. Her cottage is now a museum, and the forest is now a park. Although Thorn finds many things about the present to be unnerving, she is intrigued by the world of online dating. Still searching for her one true love, Thorn embarks on the 21st-century dating scene helped by the museum’s curator and her handsome veterinarian brother.
I liked this book so much! One of the things I loved was reading about Thorn’s magic and potions. The magical world-building was intriguing, and I chuckled as I read about Thorn gathering her beard of goat and wart of spider. I loved reading about how Thorn was so witchy. She wears pointed-toe boots that curl up at the end and striped stockings. She rides a broom and brews potions. It made the story so interesting and added such a supernatural element.
Thorn’s cat familiar, Bandit, also time-travels with her. I adored Bandit. He was so sassy and funny and the perfect companion to Thorn. Thorn has the ability to talk to cats and their conversations were hilarious.
This book was such a cozy read and I was rooting for Thorn the whole time. Her adventures of going on dates and wearing jeans for the first time (which she comically called Jean’s pants) made me laugh. I loved reading about Thorn finding love and finding herself. The number of times that she mentioned she needed to find a husband by the time she was 40 was a little overkill, but I could overlook that considering Thorn was considered an old maid in her time.
This book was a delight!
