December is full of so much excitement – shopping, decorating, celebrating – and Giving Tuesday feels like the perfect moment to slow down and remember what truly matters. Giving Tuesday is an annual day of giving that takes place on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It’s a day all about generosity, in every form it can take. Big or small, every act of giving counts, and today is a beautiful reminder of how much good we can put into the world together.
It seems especially important this year, particularly in the U.S, where funding for the arts and social services has substantially decreased. Giving Tuesday allows us to intentionally give back to our communities, support charitable organizations, and uplift the causes that matter most to us.
I like to donate to both the Seattle Public Library and the King County Public Library. I truly believe libraries need all the funding they can get. They provide free access to books, technology, education, and safe community spaces for people of all ages. Libraries support literacy, lifelong learning, and connection, yet they are often some of the first places to feel the impact of budget cuts. Supporting them feels like investing directly in the heart of the community.
I also donate yearly to Wikipedia. I know Wikipedia might sound like an odd organization to support, but it is entirely donor-funded and relies primarily on individual contributions. Personally, I use Wikipedia almost every day to look up the plot of a movie, get a television series recap, or learn about whatever random thought pops into my mind. It’s an incredible, free resource that makes information accessible to everyone, and I love being able to help keep it running.
Giving Tuesday is a quiet reminder that generosity, in all its forms, truly matters.
