Potatoes might be one of my favorite carbs. I love them any way you can cook them: French fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, roasted potatoes, hash browns, you name it.
But my biggest potato weakness? Potato chips.
They’re the perfect snack: salty, bite-sized, and easy to eat one-handed. You can snack on them while walking down the street, and they pair perfectly with a sandwich.
So when I spotted a new flavor of Lay’s on the shelf at the grocery store, I knew I had to try them.
I’m talking about the Bacon Grilled Cheese flavor.
The moment I opened the bag, I was hit with a wave of smoky, savory aroma. It’s definitely bacon-forward, with just a hint of cheese. It smelled delicious, just not immediately like a grilled cheese sandwich.
Visually, they’re your standard ridgeless chips, but with a slightly heavier dusting of seasoning. You’ll definitely want napkins nearby to wipe your fingers (or you could just lick them – this is a no-judgment zone).
Flavor-wise, the bacon really shines. It’s smoky, a little salty, and honestly tastes a bit like bacon bits. If you’re here for bacon, you’ll get it.
The grilled cheese flavor, though, is more subtle. There’s a tangy cheese flavor, but it tastes more like a classic cheddar chip than an actual grilled cheese. It doesn’t quite capture that buttery, toasted bread and melty cheese magic.
Instead of “grilled cheese and bacon,” the overall vibe is more like cheesy chips with a bacon twist.
That being said, they’re delicious.
The flavors work really well together, and now I’m wondering why this combo isn’t more common. They’re great on their own or paired with a sandwich. And yes, I did eat them with a grilled cheese. You know I did.
If you’re someone who thinks bacon improves everything, these chips are definitely worth trying. Would I eat them all the time? Probably not. They’re a little too bold and flavorful for an everyday snack, but they’re perfect when you want something different from your usual chips.
Final verdict: not quite grilled cheese, but still a snack I’d happily reach for again.
