I’ve been thinking about my goals for 2019 and what I want to accomplish. I usually have some sort of goals for the year. Most of the time they are unspoken and just things I think about in my head. But I thought that this year I would publish a couple of my goals in the hopes that it would make me more accountable. I know there are not a lot of people that read or follow this blog but for those of you that do, here are some of my 2019 goals in no particular order:
Fitness:
I feel like fitness is a never-ending goal, right? It seems like every year I make a fitness goal.
Even so, my goal for 2019 is to run/participate in one 5k every month.
I’m enjoying looking up fun themed 5ks and signing up. Last year I ran in five 5ks. Most of them were near the end of the year after I had gotten over my nervousness of showing up for runs by myself. Signing up for twelve (or more) 5ks is probably going to cost me a lot of money (particularly since I love the runs where you get swag) but I am going to try.
Money:
It’s scary to type this, but I have a lot of debt. Most of it is school loan debt but I have some credit card debt that I’ve been trying to pay down. Of course, if I fulfill my fitness goal and sign up for twelve 5ks, then that is just more money I am spending. But it would be for a good reason so…
My goal for 2019 is to pay off one credit card.
Unfortunately, a large portion of my income after paying rent and essentials goes to paying my student loans and debt. I don’t have a lot of money left over to make extra payments. I’ve been plugging away at my debt over the past couple of years and realistically, I think I can finish paying off a credit card this year. I know I probably won’t be credit card debt free by this time next year, but hopefully I’ll be in less debt.
Reading:
For the past few years, I’ve set a goal of a specific number of books to read for the year. Sometimes I hit that goal. Sometimes I don’t.
This year I’ve decided not to have a numbered goal of books to read.
Lately, I’ve found myself just reading in a hurry in order to finish books so I can cross them off my list and add to my finished numbers. Sometimes I can’t even remember what books I’ve read. And I find myself rarely rereading books. I used to reread books all the time but now I hardly ever do because I’m so focused on getting through as many books as I can. That’s why I decided not to have any reading goals this year. I’ll still keep track of the books I’ve read and how many but there won’t be a magic number that I’m racing towards.
Writing:
I originally started to write book reviews because I found it helped me to remember what books I’ve read. I was also able to go back and look up what I liked and didn’t like about a book. I found writing reviews made me think more about the book and it also helped me to improve my writing.
My goal for this year is to try to write a review of every book I read.
Sometimes I don’t write a review because I can’t really think of anything good or bad to say about a book. Some books are just okay. Those are the worst reviews to write because there’s nothing to gush about but there’s also nothing to be angry about. When I have no good or bad feelings about a book, it’s hard to know what to write. I have a feeling I’m going to be writing a lot of “This book was fine.” But I’m going to try.
And those are some of my 2019 goals. We’ll see how it goes!
