Mona and her twin sister Lisa couldn’t be more different – Mona graduated from high school at 15, went to college and now at age 19 is applying for a Ph.D. program. Lisa, well Lisa likes to party. But when Lisa calls Mona after she’s been arrested and asks Mona to come home and pretend to be Lisa for a week so no one finds out, Mona agrees. The only catch is that Mona didn’t know that she would be staying with Abram, their brother Leo’s friend, who has been tasked with watching Lisa for a week.
I liked this book. This is a new series by Penny Reid and is a trilogy. Luckily, all three books were published within weeks of one another so you won’t have to wait years to read the next one. I believe the characters in this book are related to characters or have shown up in some of Penny Reid’s other books but as I have only read one other Penny Reid book, I’m not positive.
Mona is a bit geeky, but you’d have to be when you are as smart as she is right? She is introverted and a bit socially awkward. She loves to research and has a list of bizarre quotes she uses when she has nothing else to say. She hides in the pantry so that she can read without Abram noticing and has a love for doughnuts. I found her to be delightful.
Mona is nothing like her sister Lisa who is always in the tabloids (their parents are famous musicians). But since Lisa has only met Abram once and Mona has never met him, the two think they can pull off this scam. Things get complicated when Mona starts to fall for Abram and thinks that he may be falling for her as well, only he thinks he’s falling for Lisa.
The book is told from Mona’s point of view so we don’t really know what’s going on in Abram’s head. I definitely wanted to hear more from Abram and would have loved to know what he was thinking of some points in the story.
There’s a lot that goes on in this book. Twin swopping, youtube videos about putting on makeup, trips to the bookstore, and falling for a guy that is your total opposite. I liked all of it.
The book ends on a cliff hanger – Mona has decided she will tell Abram the truth only for Lisa to arrive and the two switch back with no one realizing it. I guess we’ll have to wait for the next book in the series, Space.
